Tree of Life in Jewish Art – A Journey Through Roots, Spirit, and Color

I never thought I'd become a painter.

But I always knew I was looking for something deeper — a way to connect what I feel inside with what the world can actually see. And somehow, over the years, the Tree of Life became my way of doing that.

It started as a symbol. A beautiful one. But today, it’s more than that for me. It’s a language. A declaration. A story I keep telling, over and over again, through color, texture, and movement.

What Is the Tree of Life in Judaism?

In Jewish tradition, the Tree of Life (Etz Chaim) symbolizes everything we strive for: wisdom, rootedness, growth, and spiritual connection. It appears in our Torah, our prayers, and our homes.

But to me — as Albert Levi, as an Israeli artist, as a soldier who’s walked through warzones and a creator who now walks with paint on his hands — the Tree of Life means something personal.

It’s about survival.

It’s about rising again.

It’s about being part of something much bigger than myself.

This deeper spiritual meaning is part of why I created my Jewish Tree of Life Symbol – Spiritual Meaning on Canvas, where symbolism meets soul.

Why I Keep Painting the Tree of Life

There are symbols that you paint once and move on. And then there are symbols that come back to you — because they’re not done with you yet.

For me, the Tree of Life is one of those.

I’ve painted dozens of versions of it. Each one is different. Some tall and narrow. Some spread wide with movement and energy. Some full of deep blues and whites — the colors of Israel — and others exploding with warmth and light.

Each version tells a slightly different story — just like in my Painting of Tree of Life – How One Symbol Became Universal, where I reflect on its wide-reaching relevance.

But all of them hold the same intention: To remind us where we come from. To remind us that our spirit doesn’t break. To remind us that we’re still growing.

As Albert Levi, I don't just paint what I see — I paint what I feel. And the Tree of Life helps me bring that feeling into the world.

You can view the Tree of Life collection here to see how each piece reflects that journey.

The Meaning Behind My Blue Tree of Life

Why blue?

Because blue is the color of the Jewish soul. It’s the color of tallit strings, of Israeli skies, of faith and longing and light.

In many of my Tree of Life paintings, I use shades of blue layered with white, silver, and deep textures that feel alive. I use a splash-paint technique that makes each branch feel like it’s moving — as if the tree is breathing.

This focus on movement and spirit is also something I explore in my Tree of Life Blue – The Color, The Symbol, The Impact, where color becomes a statement.

The result is something spiritual, modern, emotional — and very Jewish.

It’s not about copying tradition. It’s about honoring it, while making it my own.

The Process: How Each Painting Is Made

People often ask how I create these trees.

It starts with silence.

In my studio in Herzliya, Israel, I begin by thinking about what I want the tree to say. Sometimes it’s about strength. Sometimes about healing. Sometimes about joy.

Then I build the background: layers of acrylic on cotton canvas. Then come the trunk and the branches, painted by hand, always unique. I finish by adding my signature energy — splashes, motion, emotion.

No two trees are ever alike. Just like no two souls are.

Some of my trees are one-of-a-kind original paintings. Others are limited edition prints, hand-embellished by me personally, with real texture and brushwork.

Every piece is signed. Every piece is felt.

This personal attention and emotion are part of what make my work stand out — just like I explain in Unique Jewish Artwork – How to Find Art That Speaks to Your Soul.

Why Jewish Families Around the World Choose This Art

My art isn’t quiet. It doesn’t whisper.

It speaks.

To Jewish families across the United States — from New York to Miami to LA — the Tree of Life collection has become something special.

It’s not just wall decor. It’s a declaration of identity. It’s a daily reminder of who we are, and who we’re meant to become.

In a world that can feel uncertain, especially for Jews today, this tree gives us something to hold onto.

Where It Belongs

These paintings are made for Jewish homes.

For living rooms where families light Shabbat candles. For entryways that welcome guests with pride. For nurseries where new Jewish life begins.

I’ve seen my Tree of Life pieces placed above mezuzahs, beside wedding photos, across from Torah bookshelves. And every time I see that — I know it found the right home.

Because when you put something on your wall that carries soul — it changes the energy of the space.

Questions I Get Often:

“Is every piece really hand-painted?”
Yes. The originals are 100% painted by me. The limited editions are printed on museum-quality canvas and then hand-embellished with brushwork, texture, and care.

“Can I request custom colors or sizes?”
Absolutely. I’ve created dozens of Tree of Life pieces in custom sizes and tones to fit clients’ homes and visions.

“Do you ship worldwide?”
Yes. Most of my collectors are in the U.S., and we ship from within the States.

“What makes your Tree of Life different?”
It’s not just a symbol — it’s my story. My spirit. My Israel. Every painting is built with emotion and movement. That’s what people feel when they see it.
